Former Everton man Dominic Calvert-Lewin sets tone ahead of Leeds United clash – ‘It’ll be interesting’

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has surprised many with his performances this season at Leeds United. His goals have played a big role in ensuring the club maintain a healthy gap between them and the relegation zone.

Leeds fans were not convinced when the club decided to sign Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer in the summer. He struggled in the last few seasons due to injuries, and his goal return was not great either.

However, the Whites were convinced that the 28-year-old striker would make an impact if they could keep him fit, and he has done exactly that for them this season.

Daniel Farke’s decision to switch systems towards the end of 2025 unlocked Calvert-Lewin’s potential, and Thomas Tuchel is now being urged to recall the striker to the England squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

The 28-year-old striker has a point to prove ahead of taking a trip to Everton as part of the Leeds United team in a week for the first time since leaving the club.

Everton were happy to release him at the end of his contract, and his goals are now proving that they made a mistake in letting him go.

Calvert-Lewin is looking forward to taking on his former team and facing a few old faces in the Everton squad. He is also keen to play at their new stadium as it was still being built when he was at Goodison Park.

Calvert-Lewin said on Sky Sports: “Yeah, obviously looking forward to it.

“It’ll be interesting going up against them after having played for them for so long, seeing familiar faces, old faces and also the new stadium, which I was a part of for a long time.

“Seeing that get built and then to go and play there, it’s something that I’m looking forward to.”

David Moyes will have a tinge of regret watching Calvert-Lewin in a Leeds shirt

Everton felt Calvert-Lewin didn’t deserve the wages he was demanding last summer and were happy to let him leave on a free transfer.

However, the forward has proved Moyes and Everton’s judgment call wrong by banging in the goals for Leeds since November, once Farke unlocked him.

Moyes would love to have a goalscorer like him in his squad, as finding the back of the net has been a problem for his side, who lack a clinical striker.

Everton are six spots above Leeds in the Premier League, but have scored just 24 times in 22 Premier League games, six less than the Whites.

If Calvert-Lewin scores against his former side next week, expect a few Everton fans to demand answers from their manager and the board.
