Former Leeds player praises Javi Gracia’s style of coaching ahead of Liverpool clash

Ex-Leeds star Noel Whelan was full of praise for Javi Gracia’s style since he took over the club.

Gracia has won 10 points since he arrived at Elland Road, with the team providing results since he took charge. Leeds narrowly lost to Chelsea, drew to Brighton and beat Wolverhampton Wanderers over the past month.

Noel Whelan is adamant the hard work is down to how disciplined Gracia has gotten the team defensively:

“There is a bit more discipline about our performance now. Beforehand, we were conceding quite a lot of goals.

“We were scoring a lot but we were conceding a lot as well.

“Every manager has got a different style, a different way of behaving on the sideline with interviews and what they do with the team.

Whelan also mentioned that under Gracia, the team has seen more stability and are harder to play through than under Jesse Marsch:

“We were quite narrow under Jesse Marsch, very early on we were getting found out in those wide wing-back areas where we liked to push our wing-backs nice and high.

“Javi has come in and we are really using that width, getting [Luis] Sinisterra and [Jack] Harrison out wide and I just think there is a little bit more structure about our game defensively.”

Leeds welcome Liverpool to Elland Road on Monday night in the Premier League.
