It does not come as a surprise that many coaches who have worked at Leeds United have gone on to do great things.
Former Leeds United assistant Rene Maric is now working with Bayern Munich. Robbie Keane, who was part of the coaching staff under Sam Allardyce in 2023 is also in the running for the vacant Coventry City job. Despite Leeds’ status at the top flight fluctuating, the pedigree of coaches continues to be respectable.
Elland Road has been home to Marcelo Bielsa, Jesse Marsch, Javi Gracia and Sam Allardyce in the past five years. The club has seen managers changed frequently, but seem to have found one for the long term in Daniel Farke.

Former Leeds United man keen on return to England
Farke sort of came in under the radar, as many people around the club expected a high profile name. The German has proven his worth, and shown exactly why he earned the job. Leeds won 90 points and scored 81 goals last year but narrowly missed out on Premier League promotion.
Former Leeds United assistant Gus Poyet has now hinted to a return to managing in England. The Uruguayan was assistant to Dennis Wise during his time at the club in 2006. Poyet believes he will be in a coaching job in English football in the near future:
“My aim is that one, to come back. It’s been difficult. It’s not easy.” He said, speaking to the Sunderland Echo.
“There is a big group of young coaches now. So I’m trying to make sure that I get in a place where I’m going to have a chance to do well, not jump in any opportunity.
“But those ones, they are not easy, you know, they don’t come quite quickly. So you need to wait sometimes. But during that time, I’m open to managing anywhere in the world.”
The 57-year old’s last job was in charge of the Greece national team. His contract ended in March and he is now available to all clubs. Poyet has also been with AEK Athens, Real Betis, Shanghai Shenhua and Bordeaux over the last few seasons. He reportedly almost joined Sunderland in April before the Black Cats appointed Regis Le Bris. Leeds United have been linked with Sunderland defender Dennis Cirkin over the past few weeks.
