Leeds United have had a long line of players and coaches pass through their hands in the club’s history. And things are set for another former club figure to make the move into football after his playing career.

The Whites have opened their door to former players to come and work with the team.

In the past year, Jonny Howson has returned to work with the U21s side and was even a player coach. Aaron Lennon also joined the backroom staff at youth level at Thorp Arch.

The Leeds U21 side has been a key part of the club for the last couple of years.

Pascal Struijk, Archie Gray and Harry Gray are examples of players who have made it to the first team through that route.

James Milner came through the ranks at Thorp Arch and became one of the youngest players in the league.

But after a few seasons, Leeds United found themselves in financial trouble and had to sell him to Newcastle. Milner has gone on to have a hugely succesful career, winning the Premier League and Champions League along with other trophies.

His last club before his retirement was Brighton. And in his final days, he did mention that he would consider coaching.

Milner mentioned that Jurgen Klopp was a key reason why that decision is something he looks forward to. And this latest development, he has taken a huge step towards that.

James Pearce is reporting that the 40-year old is back at Liverpool, coaching different age groups as he pursues his UEFA Pro License.

Per the report from Pearce, the agreement is casual with Milner assisting coaching staff rather than being directly responsible for the youth sides.

Will James Milner ever return to Elland Road?

In a recent interview with Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt on YouTube, Milner explained when he fell out with the club.

He wanted to come and watch them play at Wembley, but they did not offer him tickets. The former Liverpool and Manchester City player did clarify that he had no hard feelings, and blamed it on the people in charge at that time.

Milner still has a lot of love for Leeds United, and could return in the future.

It would be nice to see him coaching the next generation at Thorp Arch, which was the beginning of his illustrious career.
