Former Leeds United star now worth £84 m

Over the past few years, Leeds United have made some of the most expensive sales in the club’s history.

Leeds United remain one of the biggest clubs in England, and have no issues with investment. Especially after the latest deals with 49 Enterprises and most recently, global giants Red Bull.

Just this summer, Leeds made over €100million off the sales of Archie Gray, Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville. The trio all joined Premier League sides after Leeds United failed to win promotion last year.

Summerville was named EFL Championship player of the Year after he scored 19 goals in the league. Archie Gray was named in the EFL Championship team of the Year as a teenager, and Georginio Rutter provided 15 assists last year.

Over the past few seasons, Leeds have lost key players as they struggle to compete with the best teams in the country. Kalvin Phillips left the club for €49m in 2022. Elland Road are quite used to losing players they fall in love with.

Barcelona star Raphinha was one of them; after wowing Leeds fans during his time in the Premier League, the Brazilian left to join the Spanish giants in the summer of 2023. When he arrived at Barcelona, he struggled and was not up to his best form. Some fans of the club even wanted him out during the summer, as he was linked with a return to the Premier League. The 27-year old has won over the fans, and has even been named one of the captains of the team. Raphinha has started this season strongly, with seven goals and six assists in 13 games in La Liga this season.

Arsenal were recently linked with a move for the former Leeds United forward, and now Barcelona have slapped a £84m price tag on the player.

Raphinha still loved at Elland Road

Like other Leeds United stars before him, the Brazilian is still adored by some fans of the club who are proud to see him star for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

The 27-year revealed that he only left Elland Road because Barcelona was his childhood dream:

“When people ask me if I imagined leaving Leeds for the biggest club in the world, which is Barcelona, and joining the Brazilian national team within a year, I answer that I not only imagined it, but also managed to achieve it.

“With a lot of effort and dedication I achieved what I always wanted.”
