Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher makes shock Sam Allardyce claim about Leeds United decision

Leeds United have had sort of a unique transfer window. Seven new signings have arrived in the last few months, but the club is struggling to move players out of the door.

According to sources, Leeds had planned their window, with multiple targets and alternatives. The club also leaned on their affiliation with Red Bull when it came to signing players from Germany. Lukas Nmecha, Sebastiaan Bornauw and Anton Stach all joined from the Bundesliga.

Leeds have not even spent close to £100million, but have made some solid additions in every department of the squad. Most of these players were regulars at top clubs in Europe. Closing the gap in quality in the Premier League depends on how good your recruitment is, and Leeds can boast that they have done a great job this summer.

However, Daniel Farke believes that the team need to wrap up a few deals before the new season kicks off.

Jamie Carragher comments on Leeds United transfers

Former Liverpool defender has already been in the news this week for his comments on Leeds United. He said that the Whites, alongside the two other newly promoted clubs are basically non factors next season. Carragher called the Premier League a ”17-team” competition.

The 47-year old has once again spoken about Leeds, but this time, concerning their recruitment. Carragher said the club’s signings this summer look like they were made for Sam Allardyce:

“It looks like a template for staying in the Premier League,” Carragher said to The Overlap.

“They feel like set-pieces are going to be massively important.

Simon Rix, who was speaking to Carragher, said: “You can tell the aim of the game is to be really physical.”

Carragher responded: “Sounds like you’ve got big Sam as the manager!”

Leeds have signed six outfield players this summer, and out of that number, four of them are listed at 6ft or above. During the training camp in Germany, when Daniel Farke was asked about the trend in the recruitment, he had a good answer for it. According to him, Leeds will not be dominating games like they did in the Championship, and so the team as a collective will have to get better in the air, and dealing with crosses in their own box.

“Of course, if you join the Premier League and you have one of the smallest groups, you expect that probably there is more pressure on you than was perhaps in the Championship,” he explained.

“You have to make sure that you are also good at defending crosses. Also more corner kicks, more wide-area free kicks against us. It’s important to be really, really good and strong.”
