Leeds United emphatically beat Newcastle at Elland Road on Monday night. This means Daniel Farke’s side are now in the top four of the league, which is not a surprise to some.

Farke’s men are unbeaten in four games in the league this season.

And they have had impressive results and performances against Brighton, Brentford, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle.

After the win on Monday night, a lot of people around the league have discussed Leeds and their chances this season. Fans are very optimistic that the club can better their 14th-placed finish last year.

While others like Simon Jordan believe the Whites can sneak into Europe.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster says he is not surprised with how Leeds United have started this season.

In a discussion with Andy Goldstein on talkSPORT, the 43-year old believes that the club keeping their team together with Daniel Farke as coach is a big reason for that.

”I actually don’t even know why it’s so much of a surprise that they’ve got off to a great start”

”If you look at how they finished last season; they beat Man United at Old Trafford, wolves 3-0 draw with Bournemouth, draw with Tottenham and beat Brighton at home. There’s no surprise really.”

”They’ve kept their solid squad together and the teams they have already beaten this season are decent teams as well”

”I think Nottingham Forest is a good team, Brentford, Brighton are good teams. Newcastle got off to a fantastic start to the season and they’ve blown them away.”

When asked what the Whites should be aiming for this year, Foster said.

”I think for Leeds, a realistic ceiling or realistic aim for them needs to be to start getting mentioned in the same ilk as Brentfords and Bournemouths”

”And if they can start to attach their name to them when they start to talk about that sort of ilk of team, then I think Leeds will do very well to do that.”

How high can Leeds finish this season

Realistically, Daniel Farke’s men should be aiming to finish right around where they did last year.

And this time around, they are well equipped to do that given how much they spent in the summer window. Leeds were able to upgrade in key areas of the squad and improved on some players from last year.

Given how the core of the team remains the same, and that Farke remains in charge, a top half finish is realistic.

And considering that most of the top half of the Premier League will be occupied with European competition, there is a slight chance that Leeds could sneak into Europe themselves.
