Almost at the midway point of the season, a lot of teams in the Premier League know their fate. Leeds United are one of those sides.
After a mixed start to the season, the Whites have now picked some form as they look to distance themselves from the relegation battle. Leeds have gone five games without a loss, and are opening the gap as they fight for survival.
The club’s current form comes as a real surprise; just last month, Leeds could not buy a win from anywhere and Daniel Farke was on the verge of being sacked.
Tim Howard gives Leeds United relegation verdict
From the start of the season, not many people gave the Whites any chance of survival. But some pundits and former players are changing their tune. Former Manchester United and Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard believes that Leeds could beat the drop ahead of West Ham this season.
“I think about how important all these points are, and for Leeds, that puts them seven points clear of West Ham, which essentially means West Ham has to overturn three results at some point.
“And the more points you can stack on top of that, they’re not safe yet by any stretch, but the way that they’re playing, they’ve got an inform striker in Dominic Calvert-Lewin, they have a bit of an understanding in terms of the formation now, I’d be happy with that,”
Leeds must continue this run of form
Tim Howard is right; out of all the teams that seem to be involved in the relegation battle, Leeds United are the only side who look serious. West Ham are not great, Wolves are the worst side in the league and Burnley do not look like a team that will escape the relegation zone anytime soon.
Their last five games showed everyone how good the team can be when they click.
Farke’s new system is getting the best out of all his players, especially Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The striker is among the best players in the league this season, and there have already been talks about an England call up.
This weekend, Farke’s side face Liverpool – Arne Slot’s men had a really difficult time at Elland Road when the two sides last met. But ahead of this game, both teams will be confident of getting a result; the Reds have won three games in a row, while Leeds are also unbeaten in their last five league games.
