Former Premier League captain says Leeds will come straight back down under Daniel Farke – His comments will rattle a few

Daniel Farke has received massive plaudits for picking up the pieces at the end of last season when Leeds United lost the playoff final and building a team who are on their way to earning automatic promotion to the Premier League. The Leeds boss rebuilt the squad after losing three key players last season and made them a better team without compromising on his principles this season. No one is betting against them from getting the job done this season and Leeds are now more or less expected to be in the Premier League when the new campaign starts in August. However, doubts about Farke’s ability in the top flight have returned even before the team have booked their ticket for the top flight.

Leeds United seem poised to return to the Premier League and their recent form suggests they could go up as the Championship winners.

Farke has been trying to keep everyone grounded and focused as the job is not done but Leeds are now more or less expected to be playing in the Premier League next season.

The Leeds boss has a proven track record of taking teams up to the Premier League but his record in the top flight has led to question marks over whether he could keep the Whites there.

The German has been itching to get a chance to prove himself in the Premier League after his failures at Norwich City previously but Troy Deeney remains unconvinced that he is the man to keep Leeds in the top flight.

‘Daniel Farke has not shown that he can adapt to the Premier League’ – the ex-Premier League star

Farke took Norwich City up at the end of the 2018/19 season as Championship winners. However, the Canaries were instantly relegated back to the Championship the next year.

The German again took the Canaries up as the winners of the league with a club-record 97 points and was named the EFL Championship Manager of the Season.

However, in September 2021 he made an infamous record when he became the first manager to lose 15 Premier League games in a row and in November he was sacked on the day Norwich won their first league game of the season.

Farke seems to be on the way to taking another team to the Premier League but Deeney conceded that he can’t see Leeds surviving in the top flight under the German.

He stressed that he hasn’t seen much from Farke to suggest that he will adapt his style to the Premier League, which will again be his doom at Leeds.

“[He’ll] take them up, yes. But keep them up? No. I haven’t seen enough to say that [Farke] can keep them up”, Deeney said on talkSPORT.

“I think there’ll be investment; I think Leeds as a club will change from what they’ve been doing over the previous years, but I haven’t seen enough in Daniel Farke.

“This is going to sound really bad considering he’s going to probably have three promotions – I haven’t seen him be able to change his style and adapt to staying in the Premier League.

“I’m going to say no, just because I haven’t seen it before, but I hope he does obviously.”

Leeds fans will back their manager to turn around his Premier League fortunes

Farke’s record in the Premier League is not flattering and his failures at Norwich City will give some at Elland Road a few jitters about what could happen if they go up.

However, there is little to suggest that the current owners won’t give Farke a chance to prove himself again in the Premier League if Leeds go up this season.

The German has won over the Leeds board and the fans this season by rebuilding the team and he deserves another crack at the English top flight.

Leeds hope to arm him with all the necessary resources and tools in the summer transfer window to build a squad good enough to sustain in the Premier League next season.

Farke will have to be ruthless with his squad planning and may be forced to take some tough decisions on certain players who have played a big part this season.

But more importantly, the German will have to adapt his style to the Premier League and acknowledge that Leeds can’t play on the front foot all the time.

However, Leeds fans will back their manager to learn from his past mistakes and ensure Leeds stay in the top flight next season.
