Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan believes the stadium plans show that Leeds United will eventually return to the big time in the near future.
Leeds have announced plans to revamp Elland Road and increase it’s capacity to 53,000 as the new owners try to take an ambitious route for the club.
The Whites are keen to maintain the electric atmosphere of Elland Road while revamping it to suit the modern needs and demands of the game.
Once the project is complete, Leeds United will have the seventh biggest stadium in England in terms of capacity, ahead of several big-name teams in the Premier League.
Jordan lavished praise on the ambition the Leeds owners are showing to make sure that the Whites return to their former glories soon.
Stadium plans show Leeds United will be back
The former Crystal Palace owner indicated that the health of the game is in good stead as Leeds are planning to expand their stadium while still being in the Championship.
He stressed that the Leeds owners are laying down their cards when it comes to their ambition and the stadium plans show that the Yorkshire giants will eventually return to the big time sooner or later.
“We talk about the need to deal with the game, regulate it, control it and we are worried about its future”, Jordan said on talkSPORT.
“But we have Birmingham City in League One packing their stadium and trying to build an entirely new stadium in a complex to provide the infrastructure to a football club.
“And now we have got Leeds United building a 53,000-seater stadium inside the Championship.
“Of course, they are building it for the future.
“Is that the seventh biggest stadium in the country?
“It tells you where they should be and eventually probably where they will be.”
The Leeds owners are banking on the Whites returning to the Premier League at the end of the season in order to accelerate the club’s plans.
