Former referee thinks Burnley player should be punished

Burnley player Loum Tchaouna had a great moment on Saturday as he scored the goal that sealed a 2-0 win over Leeds United at Turf Moor. Ahead of the game, the Whites were seen as slight favourites.

After their start to the season, and how they held up against better sides like Bournemouth and Spurs, everyone expected a result at Turf Moor. Leeds were shocked in the first 20 minutes of the match as Lesley Ugochukwu headed past Karl Darlow from a Kyle Walker cross. Questions will surely be asked about how Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk left the midfielder unmarked.

Unfortunately the Whites failed to capitalize on any of the chances they created in the second half, with Tchaouna’s long range effort sealing the result.

The Burnley midfielder, who came on later in the game and scored the decisive goal, was involved in another incident. In the last 10 minutes of the game, Tchaouna went down in a heap after Jayden Bogle successfully won the ball from him. The midfielder stayed on the ground but referee Tim Robinson waved on. The Burnley player was okay and got up to continue despite rolling on the floor in pain.

Former Premier League referee Keith Hackett says he is happy that Tim Robinson waved play on, but wants Tchaouna to be punished.

“I think there’s been a discussion between referees in recent weeks because, what I’m recognising, is when players go to ground, rather than instantly stopping play, referees are making a judgement.

“They want to keep the game going. The classic was with [Virgil] van Dijk elbowed his own teammate, but Michael Oliver concentrated on the attack.

“I’m seeing a shift from referees. Tim Robinson is in a great position, and the player goes to ground too easily, so he just totally ignores it. He doesn’t even wave on.

“It is amusing, but ultimately, either this is a route to stop simulation or stoppages, or the other route is Tim Robinson, thinking this was an act to deceive, it should be a card.

Refereeing had nothing to do with Leeds loss

Leeds lost on Saturday because they failed to finish off their multiple chances in the match. Creating the most big chances and ending up with zero goals is not a good sign. And this is not the first time; it has happened in the last two or three games. If Leeds want to survive the Premier League, they have to do better in front of goal.
