Former Leeds United star Carlton Palmer has backed the Whites to hold on to Harry Gray for years to come despite interest from Tottenham and other Premier League clubs.
The 15-year-old striker has been earning rave reviews for his performances for the Leeds United Under-18s despite struggling with injuries at the moment.
He scored eight times in eleven Premier League 2 appearances last season and is seen as one of the brightest young talents in the Leeds academy.
His older brother Archie left Leeds to move to Tottenham in the summer and the north London club are keeping tabs on the young Harry as well.
Most of the top Premier League clubs have their eyes on the youngster and Leeds are at the risk of losing him as Harry can’t sign a professional contract until he turns 17.
Harry Gray will be at Leeds United for years to come
Despite interest from Tottenham and other Premier League clubs, Palmer believes Gray would be wise to continue at Leeds at this stage of his career.
He pointed out that Archie was a first-team player at Leeds when he moved to Spurs and is part of Ange Postecoglou’s squad as well.
However, Harry is still too young and he would rather play more football at Leeds than move now to a big club and risk not playing regularly.
The former Leeds star also stressed that given the Grays are Leeds supporters, he is expecting Harry to continue at Elland Road for several years to come.
“You don’t want to be going to a big club now as a young player and not playing”, Palmer said on the Football League World.
“Archie’s already involved with the first-team and that’s what you want, because otherwise you may as well stay at Leeds United and play more games.
“It’s always going to be difficult when brothers are concerned, but I think him being a Leeds supporter and his family playing there, although there’ll be a pull, he’ll still be at Leeds United for years to come.”
