Four players absent in Leeds United squad

Daniel Farke has more issues to deal with in the current Leeds United squad.

Leeds will be hosting Luton Town at Elland Road on Wednesday night. The Whites are coming into this game after a huge win over Swansea. They became only the second team to win at the Swansea stadium this season. Goals from Manor Solomon and a late winner from Wilfried Gnonto secured all three points. Leeds now have 32 points and are in fourth place with a game in hand.

Luton Town have one of the worst away records in the league, they have only won one of their seven games so far and have only scored five goals on the road. Leeds will definitely have the upper hand in this tie, as they are on a five-game win streak.

Four Leeds United players to miss Luton game

Leeds returned from the international break with a clean bill of health. Most of the players arrived early and had enough rest before Sunday’s win over Swansea City. But there have been some injury issues to some players ahead of the Luton Town game on Wednesday night.

Junior Firpo continues to miss the game as it is his last of the three-game suspension. Daniel Farke has also revealed that Isaac Schmidt is still recovering from his minor hernia surgery. This means Sam Byram will continue to deputise at left back. Leeds are looking to sign this 22-year old left back to solve their problems at the position.

Ethan Ampadu and Illia Gruev remain the long term absentees in the squad. The duo have not played since October, when both were confirmed to have serious knee injuries. The positive news is that Ampadu is now working on grass, and Gruev is able to walk without crutches.

Ahead of the game, Daniel Farke has been adamant that he is not going to underestimate Luton Town:

“For me they are one of the contenders for the top six,”

“There’s no doubt about this, they played last season in the Premier League. When you are relegated it’s quite often difficult to avoid a hangover in the Championship. Sometimes you have to accept a poor start. They still have lots of quality and physicality in their team. They have a manager who has worked miracles for them.”

A win on Wednesday means Leeds will return to the top of the table, and go three points clear of Sunderland, who drew their game on Tuesday.
