Free agent deal agreed as Leeds United chief’s verdict is made clear

There is no way to cover up the fact that Leeds United had a terrible end to the transfer window. Despite their great start, their overall rating this summer has been inconsistent.

Leeds recruited heavily in defence and midfield bringing in quality and depth in key areas. Departures like Junior Firpo were replaced, while the likes of Anton Stach were brought in to boost the quality of the team. However, the attack was an area the club barely spent on – Leeds signed two free agents and spent less than £20million on Noah Okafor.

When Daniel Farke asked for more reinforcements in attack, the club failed to make a deal before Monday’s deadline even after having a long list of potential targets. The Whites made a last ditch effort to sign Harry Wilson, but the deal fell through at the last minute.

Josh Brownhill is set for next move

Former Burnley star Josh Brownhill popped up on Leeds’ radar after their lack of signings on deadline day. The player’s camp revealed that the Whites were contenders for his signature. Graham Smyth of YEP also said that the club discussed the signing.

But now, it has been announced that the midfielder has chosen Saudi Arabia as his next destination.

Brownhill is off to Al-Shabab where reports claim he is set to earn in excess of £100,000 a week.

Leeds United chief’s words on future signings prove true

It is not known whether Leeds had an offer for the former Burnley man, but he has made the decision on his next destination. This highlights Robbie Evans’ words to the local media when he was asked if the club would make any free agent signings:

“I think whether it’s in the window or it’s free agent market only, or it’s January, it’s all about what does the team actually need?

“What is the opportunity cost, as far as the buy you can’t make later on, or the sale you might have to make out of your current roster?

“I don’t think right now there’s any need so great that it’s worth going to the free agent market to fill it, in part because I doubt the right player is there.”
