Gabby Agbonlahor says Marcelo Bielsa’s nomination for FIFA Men’s Coach of the Year is ‘ridiculous’

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has questioned why Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is on the shortlist to be named FIFA Men’s Coach of the Year for 2020.

Agbonlahor, who hasn’t been shy in criticising Leeds this season, labelled Bielsa ‘a myth’ on talkSPORT’s Breakfast Show and believes pundits are getting carried away with the Yorkshire club.

The Argentine guided The Whites back to the top flight for the first time in 16 years earlier this year, bringing his attacking, fast-flowing football to the Premier League.

Leeds have drawn with Manchester City and Arsenal so far this campaign, while also recording a resounding 3-0 win away at Agbonlahor’s former club Aston Villa.

That hasn’t stopped the former Villa man voicing his opinions again though, claiming Bielsa should not be on the shortlist alongside Jurgen Klopp, Zinedine Zidane, Hansi Flick and Julen Lopetegui.

Agbonlahor said: “Listen, he’s done a great job at Leeds, getting them promoted and their good start to the season in the Premier league.

“But I do think it’s a bit ridiculous for him to be in that top five.

“I think there are so many great managers in world football out there who have done a better job than Bielsa.

“I’m quite shocked. Maybe Danny Mills has done the nominations?

“No, I’m not having it.

“Thomas Tuchel, the PSG manager, he isn’t even on the shortlist! No, he didn’t win the Champions League, but he got to the final and won the French title… but Bielsa is in front of him?

“I’m lost for words!”
