Turkish Giants Galatasaray have snubbed Norwich City’s Gabriel Sara for £20 million. Earlier, Leeds had made an offer of £5 million for the Brazilian winger which was deemed too low by The Canaries.
This is a big hit to The Whites’ transfer strategy as they were interested in signing the midfielder. Galatasaray claims to have paid €18 million for the transfer.
On the other hand, BBC claims that there is a guaranteed £20 million fee with £2.5 million in add-ons. Sara didn’t miss a single Championship match last season scoring 13 goals and making 12 assists in the process.
The Brazilian was in high demand this summer courtesy of his impeccable performances last season. Two Premier League and Serie A clubs were interested in the midfielder but he chose Champions League football over the four.
Norwich was in a hurry to sell Gabriel as his contract expired next year. Following his disinterest in signing an extension, The Canaries sold him to Turkey.
The Norfolk-based club signed Sara from São Paulo in 2022 for a meager £6 million fee. They beat fellow English club West Bromwich Albion in securing the Brazilian’s signature.
“First of all we should be proud that we have developed a player here to this level in his career. Also when we create these type of stories it helps to create the next ones that we can hopefully bring to this club to show them if you can perform in a good league at a good club then you are ready to take the next step. If it will be a transfer for him, then it’s more than well deserved.”
