Football League World fan pundit Jack Austwicke says loanee Joe Gelhardt is yet to live up to expectations.
The Sunderland fan, Jack, has not been impressed but is willing to give the forward a chance. The 20-year old has featured against Reading and Milwall this season.
“I’ll be honest, Joe Gelhardt is yet to impress. I don’t feel disappointed because I feel like you still have to give him time.
“Against Millwall he looked ok on the ball, but obviously it was a very, very physical game to make your debut in, and he couldn’t really get into it.
“Against Reading, I think it was more personally down to the way Reading set up, was just tough for us to break them down.
There are positives for the young forward
Even though he was critical about the youngster’s performances, Jack believes the best is to come. He praised the movement and runs Gelhardt has made, and says it will not take long to show his quality:
“He was making plenty of runs in behind that I noticed, so he was doing the hard work but he was never really receiving the ball, it felt like the gameplan wasn’t really to go in behind because of Reading’s deep line it was difficult.
“But there’s glimpses of quality there I feel like we will see it, it might just be that he’s a certain type of game player.”
Gelhardt is yet to score after two games in the Championship.
