Gianluca Di Marzio confirms £6m Leeds United transfer deal – medical today

Jack Harrison struggled during Leeds United’s 3–1 FA Cup win over Derby County on Sunday, a performance that could ultimately mark his final outing for the club.

Daniel Farke decided to reintegrate Harrison last summer following his two-year loan spell at Everton, despite significant sections of the fanbase calling for his departure.

Opportunities have since been few and far between. The winger has not featured meaningfully in the Premier League since November and has spent much of the past couple of months on the bench.

Leeds are now set to move him on, with Harrison no longer considered a key part of the squad. Fiorentina are understood to be in advanced talks over a possible deal, and Gialluca Di Marzio has provided an important update on his future.

Jack Harrison is set to leave Leeds United, but for a smaller fee

It emerged earlier this week that Leeds and Fiorentina had agreed on a deal for the winger to move to Italy on loan with an option to buy set at around £9m.

However, more information came out that suggested that Leeds are trying to get more money out of the deal and were pushing for an obligatory purchase option.

But Fiorentina seem to have got their way in negotiations and managed to convince Leeds to accept only an option to buy as part of the proposed loan offer.

According to Italian journalist Di Marzio, the Italian club have also managed to negotiate down the overall fee of the proposed deal as well.

It has been claimed that Leeds are only going to receive just over £6m if Fiorentina agree to buy Harrison at the end of the season.

A deal is now in place between the two clubs, and Harrison will now travel to Italy to complete the final steps of the deal.

He will be in Florence later today to undergo a medical ahead of signing a loan contract with Fiorentina.

Leeds had to finally compromise

The Whites tried hard to get more money out of Harrison’s potential departure. However, they finally had to agree to set a more realistic price.

Harrison has not been playing well for more than a couple of seasons, and his numbers as a winger are nothing short of dreadful.

Jack Harrison’s per-90 attacking output and percentile rankings over the last year
Statistic (per 90) Value Percentile
Non-penalty goals 0.06 6
npxG (non-penalty xG) 0.10 7
Shots total 1.28 5
Assists 0.00 3
xAG (expected assisted goals) 0.15 31
npxG + xAG 0.25 5
Shot-creating actions 2.62 14

If Fiorentina had agreed to pay a bigger option to buy, it would have been more or less guaranteed that they would not signed him on a permanent deal.

A figure just above £6m makes more sense for the 29-year-old, and there is now more than a decent chance that they will trigger the clause if they are still in Serie A next season.

Leeds need Harrison off their books next summer, and agreeing to a lower fee means there is now a decent chance that the winger will not be returning to the club next summer.
