Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto is not pushing for a move away from Elland Road this summer as speculation continues to grow surrounding his future.
Premier League side Everton appear to be the side most interested in Gnonto at present – having reportedly tabled a bid for him in recent times – but teams in his native Italy, including Champions League runners-up Inter Milan, have also been linked.
Interest in the 19-year-old is unsurprising given the breakout season he enjoyed at Leeds after signing from Swiss side FC Zurich on deadline day last summer.
Offering pace, power, and a clinical edge – there is an argument to be made that Gnonto was one of the bargain buys of last year’s summer transfer window considering his minimal £4m fee.
All interest from other clubs concerning signing the Italian youngster has been rejected by the Whites so far, and it is understood that they are keen to keep hold of him as they seek an immediate return to the top-flight in the coming season.
This desire to remain in West Yorkshire appears to be reciprocated by Gnonto, as YEP journalist Graham Smyth reports that he has no “burning desire” to leave Leeds despite widespread interest in his services.
“A long campaign that started in July 2022 with FC Zurich and ended in June 2023 with Nations League and Under 21 European Championships involvement in Italy squads delayed Gnonto’s return to training at Thorp Arch but he is now back training and has shown no signs of a burning desire to leave,” Smyth wrote.
Retaining the services of such a young talent as Gnonto would be a statement of intent from Leeds’ new owners 49ers Enterprises, as they seek to provide manager Daniel Farke with the right tools to reclaim Leeds’ Premier League status.
