Leeds United thumped Norwich City 3-0 at Elland Road in the fifth round of the FA Cup to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time since 2003.
Sean Longstaff celebrated his return to the starting eleven with a goal in the 32nd minute before Gabriel Gudmundsson doubled the home side’s lead just before the break.
Leeds controlled the second half against the Canaries, and Joel Piroe added some icing on the cake by scoring his first goal of the season in the second half to make it 3-0.
The Whites are one win away from playing an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, and Paul Robinson fancies their chances of going all the way in the tournament this season.
Paul Robinson tips Leeds United to reach Wembley this season
Premier League survival remains Leeds’ priority for the season, but the FA Cup run has brought some joy to some of the squad players and the fanbase.
However, the Whites have reached the latter stages of the competition after more than 20 years, and Robinson feels winning the FA Cup should become Leeds’ priority now.
He stressed that, given the teams that have made it to the quarter-finals, Leeds now have more than a decent chance of playing a semi-final at Wembley.
Robinson said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “When you’re a fan of any football team, the FA Cup is not a priority when you’re trying to stay in the Premier League or trying to get promoted.
“But guess what, winning the FA Cup should be a priority.
“When you look at the teams in the quarter-finals, there could be a trip to Wembley on the horizon.”
Can they take the FA Cup seriously?
Losing the last two Premier League games means Leeds are suddenly under some pressure in the relegation dogfight and are now just three points above the bottom three.
Staying in the top flight is the priority for Leeds, given the financial damages that come with relegation from the Premier League.
However, if Leeds get a good draw and somehow reach the semi-finals, they will have more than a decent chance of winning the FA Cup.
But can Leeds allow their heads to turn from the relegation battle to the prospect of winning the FA Cup for the first time since 1972?
The Whites need to secure Premier League survival soon if they want to focus on trying to win the cup and give the fans something to celebrate at the end of the season.
