Analysing why Daniel Farke wants Harry Wilson and what he would bring to Leeds United

Harry Wilson was ready to join Leeds United on transfer deadline day last summer. He had agreed a deal with the Whites, but Fulham changed their mind about selling the Welsh winger with minutes left on the clock in the transfer window.

Leeds have continued to monitor the winger’s situation and are ready to rekindle their interest in him during the winter transfer window if Wilson doesn’t sign a new contract with Fulham.

His current deal runs out at the end of the season, and Fulham are in talks with the Welshman over a new contract. Marco Silva is confident that he will agree fresh terms, but Wilson has not decided yet and is considering his options ahead of the January transfer window.

Leeds hope that the winger will not sign a new deal and are confident that they can convince him to move to Elland Road once the window reopens in Janaury.

And it makes sense why Leeds are keen to sign the Welsh winger, as he will bring something they are lacking from their wide players this season.

How Harry Wilson suits the Leeds forward line more than their current wingers

Former Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford believes Wilson’s intelligence and ability on the ball will be a huge asset for the Whites if he ends up at Elland Road in January.

“I like him, I like him a lot,” Beckford told the YEP.

“I think he’s a fantastic football player. It would suit us down to the ground.

“He’s very intelligent. He’s very intelligent on and off the ball. His positional sense is great. His distribution is fantastic, and his awareness would suit us down to the ground. And that’s the reason why we were in for him.

“I would like to see him in a Leeds United shirt.”

Beckford is right; the winger will add a lot of intelligence and Premier League experience that the Leeds squad will need in the latter half of the season.

However, Wilson will add something that the Leeds wingers are currently lacking – the ability to put crosses into the penalty box consistently.

The Leeds wide players are not making the most of having a physical striker like Dominic Calvert-Lewin and have not put in enough crosses into the box.

Okafor and Aaronson are playing the majority of the games as the wingers, and both have different qualities. The Swiss forward’s dribbling and carries into the final third make him a dangerous attacker, while Aaronson is a hard-working and incisive passer.

However, neither put in enough crosses, unlike Wilson. The Welsh winger could be the key to unlocking the full potential of Calvert-Lewin inside the penalty box.

Leeds cannot afford to miss out on him

Fulham will try to sell Wilson in January if he doesn’t sign a new deal, and Leeds have no excuses to miss out on him in the winter window.

The winger was ready to join Elland Road in the summer, and there is no reason why he could change his mind if Leeds want him again in January.

The Welshman will bring something that Leeds currently lack in their squad and will bring more Premier League experience to the team. He will also find it easier to adapt because of the Welsh contingent in Daniel Farke’s squad.

Leeds also have money to spend in January despite suggestions that PSR could limit their budget in the winter transfer window.
