Former Leeds United manager Neil Redfearn has lavished praise on the professional attitude Joel Piroe has shown this season and the threat he has been from the bench for the Yorkshire giants.
Piroe has scored three goals in his last four Championship appearances for Leeds but in all of those games, he came on from the bench in the second half.
Daniel Farke has decided to trust Mateo Joseph to become good in the number 9 role and has preferred to use the more experienced Dutchman as an impact substitute from the bench.
Piroe is a proven goalscorer in the Championship but has failed to earn the Leeds manager’s trust to start games in the number 9 role in the ongoing campaign.
However, the Leeds striker has continued to perform and again scored in their 3-0 win over Coventry City at Elland Road after coming on from the substitute’s bench.
The Leeds United star is an absolute delight for Daniel Farke
Piroe has continued to play his role from the bench and has come on to score crucial goals for Leeds in the ongoing campaign.
Redfearn admitted that the Dutchman must be a delight for Farke to work with because even though he is scoring consistently, the striker is not sulking for not starting games.
The former Leeds boss praised the attitude the forward has shown to keep performing despite being used as an option from the bench and is really making an impact when he is coming on.
He believes the way Leeds play on the transition has allowed Piroe to find the space needed to get those chances and he has the finishing ability to convert those into goals.
“He is an absolute delight for Daniel Farke because he is obviously not bringing the door down”, Redfearn said on BBC Radio Leeds.
“He has got a lot of humility, he doesn’t come on and sulk and he comes on, picks up the baton and runs with it.
“He realises that there is going to be space in the moments he comes on, he is going to get the chances in front of goal because Leeds are very much a transitional side, they have got the personnel in the wide areas to get from box to box really quick and he thrives on it.
“The fact that he got that many goals from appearances from the subs bench doesn’t surprise me at all because he is a predator, an out-and-out goalscorer, he can finish from anywhere in the box and we have seen that against today.
“For the moment, he is playing his part fully and is a good pro.”
