”He was lost” – Leeds summer exit already in the news after huge transfer

A whole host of first team players parted ways with Leeds United this summer. It was inevitable, as fans knew that the team would see some big changes to the personnel.

Daniel Farke made it quite clear during the training camp about who was in line to play this season. The Leeds boss made the major announcement that Patrick Bamford was no longer in his plans. After having a conversation with the striker, they both agreed on the decision. Bamford left Leeds after both parties mutually terminated the contract.

Largie Ramazani and Joe Gelhardt were also out of the door as Farke trimmed down the attacking options.

Then late in the summer, Polish club Pogon came up with a shocking offer for Sam Greenwood. They eventually paid up to £4million for a player who struggled to make his place in the first team at Elland Road.

And in three games for Pogon so far, Greenwood has only provided one assist. That came in this weekend’s 4-3 loss to Lechia. Despite the forward providing a crucial assist, the media had very mixed reactions about his overall performance:

“The best player on the pitch until halftime. He saw a lot, made interesting plays, and passed to his teammates.” Polish outlet GS24 wrote.

“Assisted Molnar’s goal. But after the break, he was lost.

“He chased the ball but was unable to take control of the team’s play.”

Pogon CEO said Leeds United star was a ‘marquee’ signing

The transfer came as a bit of a surprise this summer, as he had only been linked with moves to Championship clubs. Pogon CEO Tan Kesler spoke on how his time working at Hull convinced him to splash the cash on the Leeds youngster.

“It was quite an exciting transfer for us, obviously.” Kesler said.

“Me being from England, and then knowing the Championship dynamic, knowing the league’s organisation right down the street from us and also knowing how much they invested in players like Sam, Joe Gelhardt.

“I was in Hull very highly and knew him from our scouting department, Lee and the rest of our recruitment specialists; they all knew him from even [his] Arsenal days.

“To be honest with you, we believe the Championship intensity could be very useful for extra class-up.

“Sam has always been a dynamic player, versatile, had different things to offer on the pitch, whether it’s a false nine, whether it’s a ten or whether sometimes it’s an eight.

“We were in need of a position in such, but also we were looking for a marquee player who could commence other leagues.”
