”He’s a fantastic football player”: Jermaine Beckford on Harry Wilson – should Leeds sign Fulham star in January?

Leeds United tried to sign Fulham star Harry Wilson on deadline day and failed at the last minute. The Whites were trying to secure a deadline day signing as their plans for other players had fallen through.

The club spent most of their summer recruiting defenders and midfielders earlier this summer. Most of the transfer business was done during training camp, allowing Daniel Farke to evaluate the signings.

In the final week of the window, deals for Facundo Buonanotte and Harry Wilson did not materialize. This left fans frustrated as they all thought the team lacked firepower heading into the new season.

Former Leeds United man Jermaine Beckford recently spoke about the club missing out on signing Wilson. According to the former striker, the Fulham man would have ”suited” Daniel Farke’s side.

“I like him, I like him a lot,” Beckford said (via YEP).

“I think he’s a fantastic football player.

“He’s very intelligent. He’s very intelligent on and off the ball. His positional sense is great. His distribution is fantastic, and his awareness, it would suit us down to the ground. And that’s the reason why we were in for him.

“I would like to see him in a Leeds United shirt.

“But, at the same time, if it’s not, if it’s not meant to be, it’s not meant to be.”

What Fulham star could add to Leeds United team

Wilson is not the orthodox kind of winger; he is more like a throwback option in attack. He has a great cross on him – ranks in the 86th percentile in the Premier League. The attacker also knows how to get on the end of chances, he would currently benefit from how the attack operates.

Harry Wilson can create, and is a decent goal threat – 13 Premier League goals over the last three seasons. He can also sometimes operate as a number 10 and drift into central areas to create chances. If Leeds had signed him, he would have provided what Brenden Aaronson currently does at a much higher rate.
