Bamford suffered a quiet England debut on Sunday meaning, which prompted many of his biggest critics to slate the forward once again.
TalkSport pundit Jamie O’Hara was one such critic, who suggested that Bamford ‘shouldn’t be playing.’ He started off by saying ‘I don’t think he should be there.’ This is a strange statement to make, considering he was the second highest scorer among English players last season.
He went on to downplay Bamford’s England callup by suggesting Southgate has been handing out caps ‘like confetti’. O’Hara’s main concern was that Bamford was taking the place of Mason Greenwood, who O’Hara believes is a ‘ready made superstar’.
Greenwood is undoubtedly a talented young player who will play plenty of times for England in the future, but Bamford still deserves the opportunity to prove that he’s good enough to make the World Cup squad in 2022
