While the League Cup may not be as attractive as it once was, it still certainly draws a lot of interest from the teams below the Premier League. For Crewe Alexandra, cup competitions have become somewhat of a damp squib in recent seasons, with the Alex failing to land a draw against one of England’s big boys.
However, that all changed last night when the League 1 side were drawn away to Leeds United in the second round of this season’s Carabao Cup. It was a deserved reward for the Cheshire club after beating Hatlepool in round one despite playing 77 minutes of the game with only 10 men.

When the draw was revealed on social media last night, Crewe’s loyal following weren’t shy in sharing their delight ahead of the trip to Elland Road later this month. On the other hand, Leeds supporters were quite pessimistic at the news following a poor run of result against lower league teams in cup competitions over the last few years.
