Leeds United could make a shock move to boost their title aspirations in the January transfer window.
This campaign has gone exceedingly well for the club after a torrid past few months since the Championship playoff defeat. Leeds lost to Southampton in May, after failing to secure automatic promotion.
Failure to secure Premier League football allowed bigger clubs to pounce on some of their players. Archie Gray, Glen Kamara, Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville all left the club during the summer transfer window.
Leeds lost the reigning EFL Championship player of the year in Summerville, one of the best teenagers in England in Archie Gray and also lost one of the best playmakers last season in Rutter.

Leeds United could replace star man
Despite all this, Daniel Farke has managed to put together a great campaign. After 16 games, Leeds are in first place in the championship. The club jumped to the top of the table after their rivals Sunderland and Sheffield United dropped points this weekend. If Leeds can keep up that form between now and January, they will be closer to Premier League promotion than ever.
But before the winter transfer window arrives, the club have a huge opportunity. Daniel Farke has been crying out for quality in midfield since the summer. He got his wish in Ao Tanaka, who he personally requested for. Joe Rothwell also came in on loan and has formed a solid partnership with the Japanese international. As January draws closer, Leeds have a choice to make.
Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill could be on the transfer market soon. The Clarets’ star is set to leave the club in summer 2025 when his deal expires. Leeds are one of the clubs that have been linked with the 28-year old. The deal could be wrapped up in a matter of days. All Leeds have to do is terminate Joe Rothwell’s loan and send him back to Bournemouth and sign Brownhill on a permanent deal. With the Burnley captain already leaving on a free, Scott Parker could decide to cash in on him. A cut price move for a midfielder of his quality would greatly boost Leeds’ chances of promotion.
If the club do make the Premier League, Brownhill has top flight experience and can help the team. He has been one of the standout performers for the club this season, and is their top scorer with five goals.
