Huge call made to national team boss over Leeds United star – deserved after the season he’s had

Anton Stach Leeds United

Leeds United are still on a high after a week of huge results that could potentially turn their season around. After weeks of reports suggesting Daniel Farke could be sacked, the German seems to have turned things around.

Just last month, the Whites were in poor form with one of the most difficult schedules in the Premier League. But after what has gone down this past week, fans will have every bit of belief that Leeds can survive relegation. Losing to Manchester City was a huge blow, but that second half performance gave Daniel Farke a blueprint to build on.

Against Chelsea midweek, he rolled out his new 3-5-2 system and the result was morale-boosting. Leeds dominated Chelsea on and off the ball and surprised the visitors winning 3-1 at Elland Road. The team carried on that boost into the Liverpool game on Saturday night.

But things seemed to be returning to default when Hugo Ekitike struck twice in two minutes to give Liverpool a 2-0 lead. Dominic Calvert-Lewin pulled one back from the spot and Anton Stach scored to tie the game. Dominik Szoboszlai scored what seemed to be the match winner before Ao Tanaka stepped up off the bench to seal a crucial point for the home side.

Tennis legend calls for Leeds United star Anton Stach to return to national team

Among the spectators on the glorious result on Saturday night was tennis great Boris Becker. The former Wimbledon champion was enjoying the game, and one Leeds player caught his eye on the night. Becker was so impressed with Anton Stach during the game, that he called for the 27-year old to return to the German national team fold:

“Just watched Liverpool against Leeds,” Becker posted on X.

“Leeds have a young German player playing for them, Anton Stach.

“Has Nagelsmann ever scouted him or even got him on the list?!”

Stach last played for Germany in 2022 under Hansi Flick.

Midfielder has been a revelation this season

Despite his dip in form recently, Anton Stach has been one of the better performers in a Leeds United shirt this campaign. He was a summer signing that Farke insisted on. Since he arrived in the team he has established himself as a first choice option.

He came in with the reputation of being a defensive midfielder, but has thrived as a box-to-box presence in England. Stach has been an important piece in the middle of the park for the team, and will be key to any success they have going forward.
