This summer provides Leeds United the best opportunity to figure out which players they need in the near future. With the Premier League around the corner, the squad will need some changes.

Elland Road will see some new arrivals, but the club know that they have to balance the books. Some players are expected to leave later this month. Illan Meslier is being offered to clubs this week, while a trio of players, including Joe Gelhardt, are available for sale this summer.

Player contracts will also be important. The club will seek to tie down key players, and renew some contracts now that the club is set for top flight football. Sam Byram and Junior Firpo are currently in talks with Leeds United over new deals, with Firpo having a huge offer on the table.

This past season, the club won the Championship in impressive fashion. 100 points and 95 goals scored, while winning the league title on the final day. A lot of players played a key part in the campaign. Most of the praise and plaudits will go to Jayden Bogle, Ethan Ampadu, Ao Tanaka and Manor Solomon. But there were some underrated performers.

Dan James played a key role towards the end of the season. Unfortunately a hamstring problem ruled him out for the last few days of the campaign. The forward’s performances have been enough to earn the club’s approval.

According to Leeds United News, Leeds are preparing a new contract for Dan James. The forward has one year remaining on his current deal, and will now have the chance to extend his stay.

Dan James has earned this deal

This past season, only three players in the Leeds squad scored 10 or more goals. James missed the last week of the league campaign and still finished as the club’s top scorer. He also had the third most assists in the team; an attacking player with quality the club cannot let go.

It is a great move to tie him down long term. James’ Premier League experience will be a huge bonus heading into next season.
