Huge Leeds United exit tipped after latest arrival – strong competition ahead

Leeds United have a plan heading into the Premier League next season, and their latest signings have enforced that. Depth and quality is the main aim for this summer.

Last season, Daniel Farke worked with a small corer of players. It eventually worked out as Leeds won the league title, but some injuries and absences affected the team’s form midseason.

Lukas Nmecha’s arrival meant that Joel Piroe will have some competition. Fans can now be assured that Piroe will not be the undisputed starter.

Jaka Bijol’s arrival also boosts an already strong defensive core. Many around the club have tipped the Slovenian to become an automatic starter.

BBC journalist Adam Pope has now questioned if Bijol’s arrival could lead to another player falling down the pecking order:

“I think he fits right into the physicality that the club believe they need to stay up in the Premier League,”

“I would like to think he will be an addition to what’s already a big enough backline.

Pope then hints that he thinks Pascal Struijk will be the one to make way.

“(Pascal) Struijk has been injured for two seasons in a row now. It might be that the club has to let a player go to help with the financial parameters that are around but, right now, he is definitely an addition. He is an experienced one as well.

“He is 26 years old so they have signed him in his prime. He has made more than 50 appearances for Slovenia, having made his debut as a teenager. He has played in Germany and Russia and Italy, so that’s pretty good pedigree.”

Will Pascal Struijk lose his place in the team?

Struijk was a solid part of a backline that conceded just 30 goals in the Championship. His leadership has also been evident everytime he plays.

The 25-year old had a solid season, but him missing out on duels and tackles is still a problem.

Bijol’s arrival does not necessarily mean he will be sold. Daniel Farke could change the system, or Struijk could even start over Rodon. Nothing can be confirmed until Leeds start their pre season.

It would be utterly stupid to sell Struijk. Sell Aaronson, Harrison and Meslier.
