Huge Leeds United financial update

There were huge concerns about Leeds United‘s financial situation at the end of the last Championship season.

This was because of their failure to secure a return to the Premier League. Despite a stunning campaign, the Mighty Whites missed out on automatic promotion before being beaten by Southampton in the play-off final at Wembley in heartbreaking fashion.

This led to many reports claiming that missing out on Premier League finances would have a detrimental impact on the club’s finances and result in huge player sales.

Though the likes of Archie Gray left joining Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspurs, for the most part Leeds managed the financial situation well and still appear on course to push for Premier League promotion again this season spearheaded by the likes of Willy Gnonto, Pascal Struijk and Junior Firpo, all of whom deserve to be playing in the Premier League.

There has now been a huge update on Leeds United’s financial situation which will ease any fan’s worries from football finance expert Dan Plumley via MOT Leeds News.

“I don’t think so,” Plumley told MOT Leeds News. “Certainly not if it’s coming from Angus Kinnear himself in a fan’s forum sort of setting.

“We knew that any club relegated from the Premier League was always likely to face a challenge with the Championship version of PSR given the parameters are the cumulative £39 million loss over three years.

“Communication with the fanbase is really key on that so if that’s what they’re putting out publicly to their fans, they’re clearly aware of it, they’re tackling it. I don’t see any major issues, but it is always there in the background a lot of it will depend on what happens this season.

“Following the disappointment of missing out last season, there will be another push for promotion this season as well. It will all be factored in over the course of the season to follow where we are now.”

We have further explained Leeds United’s financial situation which you can read about here.
