After long years of disappointment, Junior Firpo found his feet at Leeds United last year. Since then, the left back has become a very important part of Daniel Farke’s system.

The 28-year old has had 18 assists over two campaigns. His attacking side has greatly developed under Farke, who has unleashed him down the left flank. Firpo played a key part in this campaign, playing 32 games as Leeds United won the league title.

This summer marks an important period for the club, as some players are set to leave. Not every star will play in the Premier League, with some changes set to be made to the squad in the transfer window.

There are three players set to leave at the end of their contracts this summer. Sam Byram, Junior Firpo and Josuha Guilavogui could all depart in the next month. Byram recently came out and spoke on his future at the club. Guilavogui will leave, according to multiple sources.

As for Junior Firpo, with the recent transfer links, there is a slim chance he remains at Elland Road. Just this week, FC Barcelona have made an approach for him. Former Leeds man Paul Robinson claims the club will let Firpo go this summer:

“Firpo will be let go because he got exposed in the Premier League,” he told Football Insider.

“Listen, I think he’s improved as a player.

“But in the Premier League, he got found out, he was susceptible defensively and I think he was culpable for a lot of goals they conceded.

Right decision from the club

Junior Firpo has been a brilliant performer this season. He has done well for himself the past two years, and has arguably earned a new contract on merit. But his behaviour this season may have shown why there has been no word on a new offer.

Since last year, he has refused to clear the air and this season, he even spoke about returning to Spain. Leeds need players committed to the club when they get to the Premier League. Junior Firpo is not one of them.
