“I cannot stand what Leeds have done this year” – Troy Deeney gives Leeds United Premier League verdict

Leeds United will be hoping all the business they have done this summer pays off when the Premier League begins. Seven new additions to the first team is enough to hand any newly promoted side a huge boost.

And it is just not the numbers for Leeds United, the club have moved around looking for serious quality in the market. The Whites have spent way less than £100million, and have signed some big names. They have recruited Jaka Bijol from Udinese, Anton Stach from Hoffenheim and Lucas Perri from Lyon.

The club are set to add an eighth signing this summer, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin undergoing a medical to complete a move.

Troy Deeney says he does not like the business that Leeds have done in the transfer market so far. He has especially criticized the signing of Sean Longstaff.

“I loved Leeds, but I cannot stand what they have done this year.” Deeney said on the Football Exchange Podcast.

“It is so powder puff.

“They have gone and got bigger and stronger players like Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United.

“Nice kid, 6’2, solid, but what does he do? He doesn’t score that many goals, and he is not a holding midfielder who is going to break up play.

“He is a solid, good pro and a good lad.”

‘Leeds will finish last’

Based on his opinion on the club’s transfer window, Troy Deeney also believes that the Whites will do what Southampton did last season and finish near the bottom of the table.

“That moves them from Championship decent to Championship good, but it doesn’t make them Premier League decent.”

“I just think the writing is on the wall.

“I don’t think they are going to be as bad as Southampton, they are going to get something in a few games, but that is it.

“Yes, [they will finish last], proper.”

Like you? Who can’t offer anything… If Deeney knew what he was talking about he wouldn’t be a pundit.

Mr Deeney. We at Leeds would love to know of your experience at successfully managing a football team. We would appreciate it if you could write it on the back of a postage stamp and send it to LS11. Many thanks

Spoke a bit too soon then? We dominated Everton and should have scored three or four. Why do these people get interviewed and then quoted on sites like this? Don Goodman, Gabby Agbonwhatever etc – none were all that as players, none are managers but yet, their opinion counts for something?? Not one of them has been right about us. Deeney won’t have heard of any of our players. He forgets that you can’t just go out, like Sunderland have, and buy one player per position; you need depth. If Sunderland or Burnley get a few injuries, they will get mashed. We’ve not even finished signings yet. West Ham got crushed by a side that finished 24 points behind us. Brentford are looking like fodder, Newcastle haven’t signed anybody; it’s way too early, especially given that his opinion was before our first game. We have better depth than a lot… Read more »
