‘I got it 100 percent wrong’ – Leeds United boss Daniel Farke makes pundit eat humble pie

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has had his detractors ahead of his side’s return to the Premier League. He started the season as one of the favourites to get sacked, but those notions are starting to change.

Farke’s record in the Premier League with Norwich City was horrendous, and it’s a stick that has been used to beat him this season after Leeds got promoted from the Championship.

There was speculation about Leeds changing managers in the summer ahead of their return to the Premier League. However, the 49ers backed the German head coach, and even Farke is all in at Elland Road, despite being linked with a move to Benfica in recent weeks.

The Leeds boss has been fighting doubts over his ability to keep Leeds in the Premier League even before a ball was kicked this season. However, some of those pundits are now being forced to revise their assessment of the German and his team.

‘I was wrong about Daniel Farke’ – Troy Deeney eats humble pie

Former Premier League striker Troy Deeney has conceded that he was too early to judge Farke and admitted that he expected the Leeds manager to get sacked early in the season.

However, he insisted that he was very wrong about Farke and stressed that he has built a Leeds side who are fighting hard and playing well in the Premier League.

“Probably the only time I’m going to give it to him”, Deeney said on BBC Sport.

“I put him up as one of those managers who might get the sack because of the way it ended last year. I have to say I 100% got it wrong.

“Wonderful win against Wolves away from home after going a goal down. He’s got his Leeds side fighting and trying to stay up.”

Farke is aware that a good start means nothing

His horrible experience in the Premier League with Norwich has ensured that Farke will not get carried away by the start to the season.

Leeds have looked solid in almost all the games, apart from the defeat at Arsenal, and have also taken points off teams such as Everton and Newcastle United.

However, the Leeds manager will not allow the good start to the season to get to his head or in the minds of his players, as he is aware that the road ahead will be tough.

Leeds still have gaps in their squad and are heavily dependent on players such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor remaining fit for most of the season.

However, the good start will boost their confidence, and they will hope to take it to the home game against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Can you name these 10 former Leeds United midfielders?
