Mateo Joseph and Largie Ramazani were among a list of names that Leeds United moved this summer to make space for new signings. The Whites brought in 10 new players during the transfer window.

Daniel Farke made it clear in the first week of pre-season training which players he wanted to work with. He told Patrick Bamford that he was not in Leeds plans this season, and recalled Jack Harrison to the fold. Then days later, Mateo Joseph asked for a transfer and refused to join camp in Germany.

Leeds eventually found a deal with Mallorca to loan the young forward to La Liga for the rest of the season.

Joseph has played five games on loan so far and has been yet to score a goal or provide an assist. Many around Mallorca have mixed feelings on the youngster, with some feeling he will come good and others being really critical of his game.

On Wednesday night, his club faced tough opposition in Real Sociedad. Mateo Joseph found himself in position to score a goal and change the game not once, but twice. His first chance saw his shot blocked after good work to get in the area. Then late in the second half with the chance to tie the game, Joseph was through on goal with the goalkeeper to beat and hesitated before the keeper saved the situation.

After the game, the forward was very critical of his own performance.

“I have had one in which I have to improve.” he said to Cope.

“It can’t be that I don’t finish there with a shot, to improve on that, I am self-critical and I have to give much more to the team there. But let’s go for it, this doesn’t stop,”

“we have to take what we are not doing well, we have to correct and we hope that at home we can get three points and take a joy, we are going for it”.

What is Leeds plan for Joseph?

Everything points to the fact that Leeds value the forward and see him as a valuable investment. What he has shown so far points to the fact that he can become a very good player, but he needs developing.

It is likely that he returns to Elland Road after the loan, but if a club values him at a good fee, Leeds could consider a sale.
