Leeds United are getting pelters from fans and pundits alike at the end of the transfer window. They look woefully short in the final third of the pitch, and the Whites failed to bring in anyone to improve their squad on transfer deadline day on Monday.
The Whites spent more than £100m on ten new players in the summer, but at the end of the transfer window, there is a real feeling that they do not have a squad good enough to survive in their first season back in the Premier League.
Daniel Farke made it clear over the weekend that without the required attacking additions on deadline day, the challenge to stay in the Premier League would only become tougher. But the club hierarchy dropped the ball on Monday evening.
They were close to finalising the arrival of Fulham winger Harry Wilson on a permanent deal, only for the Cottagers to change their mind about selling him in the last minute, which left Leeds empty-handed and counting their mistakes.

Jeff Stelling slams Leeds United for having the worst transfer window in the Premier League

Jeff Stelling didn’t hide his displeasure about the kind of players Leeds signed during the transfer window, and the ones they didn’t sign to improve their team.
The talkSPORT pundit insisted that there is not an iota of excitement about the players Leeds have brought in during the recently concluded summer window.
He stressed that Leeds needed to bring in a couple of strikers who have a proven track record of scoring goals, and insisted that Calvert-Lewin is not a player any club can rely upon.
Stelling also pointed out that Noah Okafor and Lukas Nmecha were not exactly setting the stage alight before they joined Leeds this summer.
“I can’t get excited about any of their signings”, he said on talkSPORT.
“I don’t know who will score the goals for them, I really do not know.
“Can’t get excited about James Justin, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and a Noah Okafor.
“They needed a couple of strikers that you could sort of rely on to get goals.
“You can’t really rely on Calvert-Lewin’s fitness, Okafor didn’t pull up trees at MIlan, and Nmecha is not a prolific goalscorer.”
Leeds may now have to rely on free transfers
With the transfer window now closed, Leeds have limited their opportunity to strengthen the squad, if they still want to.
The Whites could still sign players on free transfers, and a few proven performers are still looking for a new club.
Josh Brownhill has been touted as a potential signing. He rejected overtures from Leicester and Wolves towards the end of the window and has an offer on the table from Saudi Arabia.
It remains to be seen whether Leeds make a move for an attacking midfielder who scored 18 goals for Burnley in the Championship last season.
