Leeds United forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored his first goal for the club in their 3-1 win over Wolves at Molineux. The England striker answered some of his critics back with the sumptuous goal, and some of his detractors were in the stands today.

Calvert-Lewin produced a perfect number 9’s performance for Leeds against Wolves and showed the player who was recently in the England squad playing in a European Championship final.

He produced a brilliant header from Jayden Bogle’s cross to level things up at Molineux after the home side had taken an early lead, and was part of every good thing that the Leeds forward line did.

Leeds and Calvert-Lewin have had detractors this season, and his joining the club this summer on a free transfer was seen as a marriage of convenience. He answered some of those critics.

“I had to shut the Wolves fans up” – Calvert-Lewin reacts after big Leeds win

A huge weight was lifted off Calvert-Lewin’s back after he scored his first goal for Leeds at Wolves, especially after his missed opportunity against Fulham last weekend.

He conceded that the goal was a huge confidence booster and admitted that the forwards need to score goals to be in good spirits.

The striker is now keen to build on this and continue to score more goals for Leeds this season.

“Strikers feed off goals. It gives you confidence”, Calvert-Lewin was quoted as saying by the BBC.

“For me, getting that goal, it’s nice to get my first one for the club, and I’ll look to build on it.”

Calvert-Lewin also explained his celebrations after the goal when he pointed at the name on the back of his shirt and cupped his ears at the Wolves fans.

He admitted that he heard the Wolves mockingly chanting his name and was happy to shut them up with the goal.

“I think they [the Wolves fans] had a chant going. I heard my name, and I thought, ‘Why are they singing my name?’. So obviously the best way to shut them up is score a goal at that end and point to my shirt.”

New signings Noah Okafor and Anton Stach also scored their first goals for Leeds at Wolves.
