‘I still owe a lot…’ -Ethan Ampadu makes humble admission following tremendous Crystal Palace display

Ethan Ampadu in action for Leeds United

On Saturday, Leeds United managed to pull off another incredible result when Crystal Palace visited Elland Road. The Whites continue their march towards safety after a demanding couple of weeks.

Since the last international break, Daniel Farke’s side have faced a lot of top half teams including Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City. Before Saturday night, the club had taken four points from a possible six in consecutive games against Chelsea and Liverpool.

The Whites shocked Oliver Glasner’s side, taking the lead through Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The striker doubled his tally before half time, and in the second half, goals from Ethan Ampadu and Anton Stach wrapped up the game.

Ethan Ampadu speaks on first Premier League goal for Leeds United

It was Ampadu’s first Premier League goal in Leeds United colours. When asked about heading to the ‘goalscorers lounge’ after the game, the midfielder said on LUTV that he has a way to go before he can get there:

“I don’t think I belong in that lounge yet.

“I don’t think you score one and get yourself in there. I still owe a lot because of the amount of times I have hit it over the bar.”

“Anton puts it always on the money to be honest and then we’ve been caught out a few times of second phases so we know how important that is.

“I’m not sure why I stayed there for so long but I’m glad I did. I saw the ball come in and it’s probably a good job that I didn’t have much time to think about it. I could just stab it home and thankfully it went in so now I can tell some people that I have scored a goal in the Premier League.”

Farke’s system change has been a real boost to the team

Earlier this season, Leeds struggled to find the back of the net, but now the team is scoring at will. A lot of this has to do with the change in shape; since moving to the 3-5-2, the team has been able to put more numbers in the box in attacking situations.

With three in midfield and two up front, every time the ball gets into the box, there are options. Anton Stach has greatly benefitted from this in recent weeks. Farke’s tinkering has paid off in a big way, and hopefully it continues for the rest of the season.
