‘I think…’ – Jeff Stelling offers brutal Leeds United relegation verdict

Leeds United bounced back in a big way this past week as they recorded a huge win at Elland Road. On Friday night, the Whites had a crucial game against relegation rivals Nottingham Forest.

Many expected a tough game, with Sean Dyche’s side having gone four games unbeaten in the league, holding league leaders Arsenal to a draw in one of those games. Leeds were coming into the game after being beaten 4-0 by the Gunners themselves.

But at Elland Road, the team once again delivered an excellent performance from start to finish. Jayden Bogle, Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were all on the score sheet as the club took one step closer to safety.

Jeff Stelling gives Leeds United relegation verdict

Leeds might have won a huge game against relegation rivals this past week, but Jeff Stelling believes they are not clear yet. He mentions that their upcoming fixture list could very well see them near the bottom of the league in a couple of weeks.

“Leeds are flying so they have momentum, but at the moment I’m thinking, they’re looking safe, aren’t they?” Stelling said on talkSport.

”I think Leeds are still in it (relegation battle), Chelsea away, Aston Villa away and Manchester City at home in the next three games, so the table looks good now, but it may not do in three games.”

The Whites face Chelsea, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Sunderland in their next four league games with two of them on the road.

Failed January window could haunt the Whites

Leeds’ next few fixtures include clashes against top sides fighting for something. Manchester City are still in the title race, while Aston Villa are trying to secure their place in Europe. The games do not get easier from this point, which is why it was a bit baffling why the club did not do more in January. Bringing in just one signing has been a gamble, and even that player is yet to get significant minutes.

The defence had holes and the attack needed another quality option; Leeds went all in for Jorgen Strand Larsen, but did not bother to find an alternative when they missed out. Now they will have to count on key players like Dominic Calvert-Lewin avoiding injury from now till the end of the season.
