Leeds United have seen several players step up to the plate in the last couple of months to ensure the team go on a brilliant run of results, but Brenden Aaronson has been one of the key architects.
The United States midfielder has been on the wrong side of fans’ wrath over the last couple of seasons and continues to remain criminally underrated by sections of the Leeds support base.
However, outside voices have not affected Daniel Farke’s faith in Aaronson, and his performances in recent weeks have shown that he is finally getting into his groove as a Leeds player.
Aaronson is aware that he still needs to win over a section of the Leeds fan base, and his words suggest that he is more than ready to take on that challenge in the coming months.
Brenden Aaronson reveals his Leeds aspirations
The United States star has faced criticism for his lack of physicality and for being too lightweight for the Premier League. However, he has remained unfazed.
He insisted that he joined Leeds in 2023, intending to establish himself at Elland Road and go down as one of the legends of the club in the future.
The midfielder stressed that he wants to be remembered as a good person who never shied away from giving his 100 per cent on the pitch for Leeds and his teammates.
Aaronson told ITV: “My aspirations were what when I came here.
“I, of course, want to be a legend here, be the best player I can be, and help my teammates.
“I just want to be a guy who is well-liked as a person, but always ready to give his all on the pitch.”
Aaronson has been one of Leeds’ best players in the last couple of months
Daniel Farke faced a lot of heat for persisting with Aaronson when he was not creating or scoring goals. However, the Leeds boss never lost faith.
The United States star’s game really came into its own once he started just behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the frontline, which has unlocked him in ways.
| Competition | Games | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premier League | 21 | 4 | 3 |
| FA Cup | 1 | 0 | 0 |
| EFL Cup | 1 | 0 | 0 |
| Total (All Competitions) | 23 | 4 | 3 |
He has three goals in his last three league appearances and is looking much more of a threat both in terms of creating and scoring chances.
Aaronson’s flexibility means that he continues to remain an option for different positions even when Farke changes systems during games.
His performances have been on the up, and he is almost certain to start when Leeds take on Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium later tonight.
