A few weeks ago, there was major controversy as the Brazilian FA wanted to impose a 5-day playing ban on players that rejected the call up to the national team.
Raphinha was one such player, as the winger was advised by Leeds United to reject the callup as it meant he would be unavailable for Leeds’ game with Liverpool. The Leeds star has since spoken out on how that made him feel.
“I was upset, yes, because defending the national team is a child’s dream and who doesn’t think about it?’ Raphinha admitted. However, he went on to defend the club. “It’s no different with me, but I need to make it clear that I understand the club’s position.”
It speaks volumes about Raphinha’s professionalism that he would reject his first Brazil cap in order to play for Leeds.
