Injury update: four Leeds players ruled out for Newcastle clash

Four Leeds United players are currently sidelined due to injury, Sam Allardyce has revealed, as he prepares his side for another vital match against Newcastle at Elland Road on Saturday.

Among those set to miss the contest are long-term absentees Stuart Dallas and Tyler Adams, with winger Luis Sinisterra also missing after picking up an injury in the Whites’ recent 1-1 draw with Leicester City.

Centre-back Liam Cooper, who was not in Leeds’ matchday squad to face Manchester City over the weekend after picking up a knock against Bournemouth, is also carrying an injury and will not feature against the Magpies.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference (via Yorkshire Evening Post), Allardyce revealed the extent of the injuries within his side.

“My injuries are Liam Cooper, Stuart Dallas, Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterra, that’s not bad, just four, off we go.”

When questioned more on the fitness of club captain Cooper, the Whites boss claimed that the Scotsman could be set to return next week, providing a welcome boost to a squad who currently look a “bit light in terms of numbers”.

“He [Liam Cooper] thinks so [that he will be fit to play], he thinks next week, we have to keep everyone fit if we can. The squad at Leeds is a bit light in terms of numbers so we have to be careful and of course what’s more important now than ever is having five quality subs.”

Allardyce needs to balance the fitness of his players with the need of the squad to pick up positive results if Leeds are to avoid Premier League relegation as the end of the season approaches.
