Leeds United duo to face late fitness tests
Patrick Bamford has played just over 40 minutes of competitive football since August. The experienced striker has been in and out of the team with injury and fitness problems. Bamford missed Saturday with an illness, and was unavailable for a training session last week after a minor adductor issue.
Joe Gelhardt has also been dealing with a knock to his hip in training before the Plymouth game. Daniel Farke says both players will be assessed after Tuesday’s training session.
“No new concerns. All the players involved on Saturday will be back again. Late decisions on Bamford and Gelhardt this afternoon. They will try to train and if they come through we will take a decision on their involvement.”
Injury updates ahead of Millwall game
Daniel Farke will be pleased to hear that Ethan Ampadu is doing work on the pitch after picking up a ligament injury. The midfielder had been out since September.
Farke also spoke on how the injury issues this season have brought a new dimension to the team:
“No, I wouldn’t say the injuries were beneficial in this way, but during a marathon of the season, you have different spells. We were excellent in the first games. We played Portsmouth off the park and missed cutting edge.
We knew we were not perfectly efficient at the start. The injuries may have brought our team closer together in adversity so we had to be concentrated on being more brutal in front of goal, but it can also be coincidence. Sometimes you need some luck in being brutal.”
Leeds United will have to address their squad depth issues in the January window. The club have been linked with Bournemouth midfielder David Brooks.
