Leeds United go down at the hands of Burnley as the Clarets lift themselves out of the relegation zone following three points at Turf Moor.
Gaffer Scott Parker was always sceptical as the manager had warned that early performances didn’t directly equate to sustained results.
Talking before the game, the Englishman had some constructive words for Sunderland and Leeds United, who were doing considerably better than Burnley.
“Maybe there’s an element or an understanding of seeing what’s happened previously and knowing what’s probably needed. I would say, though, it’s still very early in the season as well, so I couldn’t really put my finger on that.”
Parker proved his point as the Clarets won 2-0 at Turf Moor. Daniel Farke was left gasping at the chances as 19 shots couldn’t produce what Burnley did in 4.
However, there was another moment that caught the eye of the fans. Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri might end up in trouble following his actions at Turf Moor.
Burnley vs Leeds investigation

BBC Radio Leeds journalist Adam Pope posted an update on X (formerly Twitter) as accusations were fired towards Mejbri. It also looks like the Whites themselves are aware of the situation.
“Leeds United are aware of an allegation of spitting by a Burnley player believed to be Hannibal. The authorities are investigating after a complaint was made from a supporter in the Leeds United section at Turf Moor.”
This is bad news for Burnley gaffer Parker, as confirmation might lead to a ban lasting multiple games. The Clarets just got out of the relegation, and losing a peripheral player might affect depth.
Previously, former Norwich City forward Borja Sainz was found guilty in a similar incident, a six-match ban followed with a £12,000 fine by The Football Association (FA).
The incident occurred last year in the EFL Championship. The Canaries faced Sunderland in a heated clash as the latter were hoping to gain promotion last season. Sainz had allegedly spat at the Black Cats centre-back Chris Mepham.
Samuel Saiz in the FA Cup
A Leeds United player was also banned for similar actions in 2018. Former White Samuel Saiz, who currently plays for Pendikspor, was sent off during an FA Cup clash.
The attacker allegedly spat at Newport County midfielder Robbie Willmott. The Spaniard was banned for six games, which is the standard punishment for the offence and also publicly apologised for his actions.
“I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely apologise. My actions are inexcusable. I accept the punishment. I will learn from this and never repeat it.”
