Ipswich Town star linked with move to Leeds United – Daniel Farke keen to add squad depth

Leeds United have a very important game this weekend. After giving their fans the perfect send off in their final home game at Elland Road, the club can go one better on Saturday.

Leeds could put the icing on the cake this season, with adding the Championship to their successful promotion campaign. The Whites need a win on Saturday as they face Plymouth. Title rivals Burnley also host Millwall at Turf Moor. Daniel Farke’s men have an advantage going into the game, as their goal difference means all they have to do is match the Clarets’ result.

Ahead of this weekend, Farke spoke a bit on the club’s plans for the transfer market in the summer:

”We’ve had a few meeting already [re strategic planning]. Many structural and personal changes in the past. It’s important we sit down together and have clarity over budget. Scouts and data analysts doing a very good job.

”Right now we will prepare for next season with Robbie and Alex – they are in different roles now and we have to make sure the processes are right.”

Last month, Leeds were linked with a move for Ipswich Town striker George Hirst. The club were looking for competition for Joel Piroe heading into the Premier league.

This week, the Whites have been linked with another player at Portman Road. The Sun are reporting that Ben Johson is being considered ahead of this summer. Fulham are also said to be interested in the versatile defender. It is expected that the 25-year old will leave Ipswich after they were relegated this season.

Leeds tried to sign Johnson in January 2024, but a move never materialized.

Johnson would be decent backup for Jayden Bogle

With Sam Byram’s contract up in the summer, Leeds would be without a natural right back behind Jayden Bogle. Bogle has been an important part of the team this year, chipping in with six goals and four assists.

Johnson does not bring a similar attacking edge. But he is a tremendous defender with versatility. During his Premier League career, he has played both fullback roles, wingback, winger and even in midfield. Leeds could fill multiple roles for cheap with the 25-year old this summer.
