Schmidt joined Leeds in the final hours of the summer transfer window and revealed his love for the values the club and their fans stand for.
He stressed that Leeds are a family club in the way they remain connected with the fans and is keen to have those massive moments as a player at Elland Road.
The Leeds new boy said on LUTV: “They are a club that match with my values, match with what I want and match with what I think about clubs.
“Leeds are a club that have big fans, they are like a big family and that’s what I like about clubs and I want to have big moments with the players, the fans and the people who work for the club.”
The Swiss defender wants to feel the energy the English fans generate inside stadiums.
The Leeds new boy insisted that the passion for football in England and the energy that English fans generate inside every ground is one of the reasons he decided to join the Yorkshire giants in the summer.
Asked if English fans played a part in him joining Leeds this season, he said: “Yes, it is, of course.
“It is also about the energy that they put into football and you don’t see that often in other countries.
“England, for me, is the best.”
