‘It was a bit of a relief…’ – Harry Wilson opens up on failed Leeds United move

The summer transfer window brings up mixed reactions among the Leeds United fanbase. When the 49ers announced that they would spend ‘every penny’ some fans were upbeat.

But at the end of the window, most of them quickly changed their tune. Leeds managed to bring in 10 new players to Elland Road in the offseason to prepare for their Premier League campaign. Big names from across Europe were brought in to improve the quality of the team.

What some fans disliked was the scramble at the end of the window to sign players. According to sources, the club wanted to sort the defence and goalkeeping issues before getting a marquee forward. But the club struck out near the end of the window, and opted for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor. The club then launched moves for multiple players around deadline day.

The most famous was the move for Fulham’s Harry Wilson. Leeds proposed a loan, and later a permanent deal for the Welshman but the London club pulled the plug at the last minute as the deadline passed. Months later, the forward has now opened up at what happened in the final days of the transfer window:

“It was the first time it had happened to me. I’m used to watching it on Sky Sports, so to be part of it was different.” he said on Sky Sports.

“My phone was going off every two minutes. It was going to happen, then it wasn’t going to happen. Then it was back on, then it was off.

“It wasn’t a certain few days or 24 hours. I didn’t know where I was going to be. It was a bit of a relief when the window closed and I could concentrate on the football.”

Leeds could still attempt a move in January

Wilson has shown this season that he can still perform for a top club. He is exactly what the Whites need in the side, a creative player who can contribute goals and assists when needed. And even with the team seemingly unbeatable in this form, more quality would get more points on the board.

As it stands, the 28-year old will be free to discuss pre-contracts with foreign clubs in January. His contract expires in the summer, and Daniel Farke could still have some interest in signing him.
