When Leeds United signed Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the summer, it came with a lot of mixed reactions. Some fans did not like the move, while others were optimistic.
Daniel Farke backed the signing of the former Everton man, praising his quality and saying that he is the kind of player the Whites need to survive in the Premier League. The start to his Leeds career was promising; because he had no pre-season he had to be slowly embedded into the team. When he scored against Wolves, there was optimism that he would go on a run.
But a goalless run saw fans frustrated with Calvert-Lewin even being benched for Lukas Nmecha at one point. But since December, the England striker has proven his worth at the club. The 28-year old went on a crazy scoring run to end the year, which saw the club go six games unbeaten. Now, Calvert-Lewin has eight league goals and is in conversations to make the World Cup.
Leeds United star remembers previous Elland Road visit
The striker mentioned recently that he heard everything the fans said about him before he signed. And he has now become one of the best players in the team so those comments do not matter. Calvert-Lewin recalls a previous visit to Elland Road before he became a Leeds player:
“I remember Elland Road being hostile,” he said.
“I remember taking a penalty, and the noise when I was running up to take that penalty, and I actually think I shushed the crowd after.
“But I guess that was a sign of my personality, and you always think as a player – and I’ve experienced now that I’ve come here – it’s tough going up against it, but when you’ve got that behind you, it can be a superpower.”

49ers looking to add reinforcements in attack
According to reports this week, Leeds are looking to add another striker this month. Looking at the health of Lukas Nmecha and the recent performances of Noah Okafor up top, it is a very good call from the club. The Whites need another player to rely on for goals outside Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Bringing in some quality in the position will be a huge boost in the club’s fight for survival as the season goes on. Hopefully the 49ers can get one more deal across the line before the window closes.
