James McAtee latest as Manchester City ask for £35M – Leeds United stance revealed

Leeds United fans finally got to see their new signings in action on Saturday. The club played their first pre-season friendly of the summer.

The weekend ended with a lot of updates from within the club. The major ones being Daniel Farke making a decision on two key players. Patrick Bamford has been told he is not in Leeds’ plans for next season. Jack Harrison on the other hand, has been tipped to be in Farke’s plans if things go well this summer.

Leeds are continuing to work on transfers as the club is expecting Anton Stach to complete a deal in the coming hours.

James McAtee is looking for a way out of Manchester City this summer. Pep Guardiola refused to include him in the Club World Cup squad, with the attacking midfielder going off to play in the U21 Euros.

Leeds have been keen on McAtee last year, but both times, City blocked the move.

This summer, the 22-year old is available for sale. Clubs like Nottingham Forest and Everton are interested. Manchester City are said to be looking for a £35million fee.

Leeds not keen on an attacking midfielder for now

According to YEP, there are no plans of signing James McAtee this summer. The report indicates that looking at the current budget, there has been no money set aside for a new attacking midfielder.

When the deal for Anton Stach is completed, Leeds are expected to push for one more winger and a striker. So any hope for a move for James McAtee is just not a priority for the club at the moment.

Rodrigo Muniz and Igor Paixao are the two players Leeds are pushing for in the meantime.

Saturday’s game suggests a formation change

On Saturday, Daniel Farke chose to play a 4-3-3, going away from the 4-2-3-1 he has stuck to in the Championship. If he does stick to that system, then there will be some huge changes in the team. Leeds failed to win, but the midfield combination of Ilia Gruev, Ao Tanaka and Ethan Ampadu played well.

The system change may also mean that Brenden Aaronson will not be a first choice starter next season. Either the American learns how to play as an attacking number eight in midfield or play out wide – roles he is not used to. It is not looking promising for Aaronson ahead of next season.
