Leeds United are one of the biggest clubs in English football.
The club have a rich history and play in the 14th largest stadium in England. The club have been very successful since being founded in 1919.
Leeds have won the First Division three times and have won the European Cup and the European Cup winner’s cup but it has been a long time since they won a major trophy. In fact, they earned the distinction in the early 2000s as one of the best Premier League sides to fail to win a trophy.
Despite a lot of positives such as investment from Red Bull, who now have a minority stake in the team and the club’s plans of expanding their stadium in the next few years, they are still waiting to return to the trophy winning days of the past.

Jamie Carragher thinks Leeds United are one of the greatest Premier League teams
In an argument about the value of winning trophies on the Overlap, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher highlighted how difficult it is to win trophies by listing the great Premier League teams to fail to win a trophy, including Leeds United.
He said: “People always say to me ‘you never won the league’ and yeah of course we didn’t, but then I think of the trophies we did win, and then I think of the really good teams in the Premier League who haven’t won anything. I think about the Leeds United team at the turn of the century, they had so many good players, Arsenal right now, Tottenham under Poch, Newcastle under Kevin Keegan.
“Sometimes we have banter with each other’s clubs, saying ‘you haven’t won that’, but it’s hard to win trophies.”
Leeds United will always be remembered for their famous players; Rio Ferdinand, Harry Kewell, Mark Viduka, and Tony Yeboah all made history in the Premier League.
Do trophies matter?
Fans of every club will tell you trophies do matter, but sometimes the experience is greater. Marcelo Bielsa was at Leeds United from 2018 to 2022. Elland Road was a great atmosphere every time Leeds played games.
Four years under Marcelo Bielsa, and the club won just one trophy but the Argentine’s influence will be remembered for a long time. Despite being relegated years ago, Ex-Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes remembers how good they were in the Premier League.
Finishing ninth in the Premier League after gaining promotion is rare for any club. Leeds United made history that season, they became the promoted club with the most points and goals scored in the last 20 years.
